STEVE Johnson looks set to finish his rally season with a flourish after two second places on the Glyn Memorial Stages at Anglesey.
The two-day event counted as two rounds, with points towards the F1000, SD34 and ANWCC Championships.
And Johnson’s points haul now means he has now finished second overall in the F1000 series and is leading the SD34 drivers table with one event to go.
He also is second in his class in the ANWCC Championship, again with one rally left.
Torrential rain at the Welsh racing circuit made the difficult for all the competitors, but particularly those in low-powered cars.
But a typically neat and tidy drive – with few mistakes – in his Nissan Micra left Johnson and co-driver Dave Barratt leading home many more powerful cars.
“It was very close between all the top F1000 runners, so there simply no room for error,” he said.
“The conditions were terrible, with horizontal rain creating a river of water on the track.”
Johnson and Barratt will now contest the final round of the SD34 and ANWCC Championships, the Neil Howard Memorial Stages at Melbourne Airfield, York on Sunday.
