ACCRINGTON Stanley defender Kieran Charnock is hoping his perform-ances for the Reds will earn him a move back to the north west.

The 24-year-old, who hails from Chorley, has been a rock for Stanley since making the loan switch to the Fraser Eagle Stadium in October from Peterborough.

But after extending hsi loan for a further two months with Stanley until the New Year, Charnock is aiming to put himself in the shop window for the January sales.

And Charnock, who started his career with Wigan before a spell with Northwich Victoria, hasn’t ruled out making his stay in Accrington a permanent arrangement.

He said: “I’m really enjoying it. More than anything, I’m just glad to be back playing football again.

“I played the week before I moved from Peterborough, but I hadn’t played a lot before that. But I’m glad to be getting back into the swing of things.

“It’s brilliant that I’m staying here until January.

“There’s no point in me going back to Peterborough. I don’t think there’s much going for me there.

“The team is doing well themselves but, hopefully, I’m doing well for Accrington.

“It’s good for me to be here and keep it going until January.

“When January comes, I suppose I will need to speak to Peterborough.

“I’ve come out to play games and put myself in the shop window, whether it’s Accrington or another club, at least teams can come and see me play now.

“I am on the transfer list, so if I could get a good move back up north then that would be the best thing for me.

“I will stay have a year-and-a-half left on my contract with them.

“The last time an approach was made, they did want money for me, so I will have to see what the situation is when January comes.”

But, for now, Charnock is determined to improve the Reds’ league position after the midweek FA Cup first round proper replay defeat at Tranmere.

And despite the Reds having very little time to recover before this afternoon’s game League Two clash against Bournemouth, Charnock believes Stanley can push on up the table.

He added: “The league is our bread and butter at the end of the day.

“The main aim for the club is League Two and we want to be pushing on up the table.

“It’s a big game against Bournemouth and we need to keep that gap between us and them.

“The points deduction has perhaps given some teams a bit of a reprieve.

“But as we did at Luton, we are just looking to win the game, especially as it’s at home, and maintain that gap.”

The Reds go into the game just 48 hours after losing to Tranmere in the FA Cup.

But Charnock believes there is a new solidity in the Reds’ back four that will stand them in good stead.

“We are feeling really solid at the back,” he said.

“Colin Murdock has obviously come in (for Robbie Williams) but I’ve played two other games with Colin and felt solid with him, and I’ve known Phil Edwards from a while back.

“We’ve struck up a good partnership and clean sheets are our goal, and we’ve had a couple of them already.”
