Ian Britton was one of the lucky ones to get a ticket at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night as the Clarets dumped last season’s finalists out of the League Cup.
However, the former Burnley midfielder – who began his career at Chelsea – had to make do with a seat in the home end after Burnley sold out their 6,100 allocation.
“I did have to keep a little bit quiet where I was. The support from the Burnley fans was absolutely fantastic though, they made a hell of a noise,” he said.
Britton did not want to single out any individual player, but reserved special praise for Owen Coyle and his back line.
He added: “Every player gave 100 per cent, the defence and Brian Jensen were magnificent. It was tough when Chelsea were throwing everything forward at 1-1, especially so when Caldwell got sent off. “The manager made changes when the team was under pressure and credit must go to him because they appeared to work.
“It would be nice if we could draw Blackburn in the next round and get revenge for what happened a few years ago.
"If we get a home tie, who knows what could happen.”
