ENGLAND midfielder Frank Lampard insists Chelsea won’t run the risk of taking Burnley for granted.

The Blues are favourites to reach the League Cup quarter-finals for the fourth time in five seasons going into tonight’s fourth-round clash at Stamford Bridge.

But although the Premier League leaders have lost just twice in all competitions this season, and only recently had an 86-game unbeaten home league run ended by Liverpool, Lampard admits the players aren’t expecting an easy night against Owen Coyle’s Clarets.

“It can be more difficult playing Championship sides because it’s a huge thing for them coming to Chelsea, it’s a big show and the players are going to want to perform as well as they can to show they can perform against Premier League players,” said the 30-year-old.

“I think, at home, we believe if we play as well as we can we should be able to win the game, but we can’t take it for granted.

“I know about their manager and I know about certain players. I know they’ve been playing pretty well - perhaps not so well in the last game, but they’ve been moving up the table before that and it’s going to be a very tough game.

“I’m sure they’ll bring good support - Championship sides always do in the cup - and we’ll need to be at our best.

“Whether the manager changes the team slightly I don’t know, but we’ve got a big enough squad for players to come in and do well.”

Chelsea have reached the League Cup final three times in the last four years, losing out to London rivals Spurs at the new Wembley last season. And although Lampard revealed it wasn’t their number one priority this term, he insisted the club wanted to continue their good run in the competition.

“It’s not as big as the Champions League, the Premier League or the FA Cup, we’ll all be honest about that, but it’s a big day out, it’s the first medal of the season and we’ll approach it this year like we approach every year,” he said.

“We’ve always taken the right attitude to it and we’ve always got pretty far in the competition, barring one year in the last four seasons, and when we’ve won it, it’s been very nice.”
