BURNLEY captain Steven Caldwell has targeted more trips to Chelsea ... in the Premier League!

The Clarets are eagerly anticipating going head-to-head with Didier Drogba and co in tonight’s glamorous Carling Cup tie at Stamford Bridge.

But with Burnley currently occupying a Championship play-off spot, Caldwell doesn’t want the fourth round clash to be just a flash in the pan.

“It’s a whole different kettle of fish if we can play against Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and all of those regularly, that’s what we want. That’s what the whole point is,” said the former Newcastle and Sunderland defender.

“A one-off game’s great but we want to be mixing with those kind of guys week in, week out, and I feel that we have the squad and the players to do that.

"But only when we’re on top of our game, which we proved on Saturday by not being on top of our game and taking a bit of a heavy defeat really.

“I thought Wolves were by far the better team. And that’s maybe a little wake-up call and reminder that for us to be at our best, which for me is as good as anybody in the league, we have to be at 100 per cent every single game.”

And Caldwell, who hopes to recover from a knee injury in time to lead the team out, is encouraging the Clarets to draw on the experience of last season’s FA Cup meeting with Arsenal.

“We were fantastic on the day, and it was probably every bit as difficult a game as what tonight will be,” he said.

“I thought we were fantastic, we took the game to them, we had chances.

"We were really unlucky, and Arsenal really had to find something in the second half to beat us.

"But for Kyle (Lafferty) going off I think it might have been different, we might have got a draw that day.

“If we could have Chelsea here I think it’s a different prospect.

“I think on our own park when we get things going we’re a really difficult team to beat, so it adds that extra difficulty to the game to go to Stamford Bridge.

"But it’s more enjoyable for us really to go and play in that stadium in front of a big crowd.”

But Caldwell insisted he would trade a cup upset for three points at QPR on Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to it, but it really is a bonus,” said the 28-year-old.

“We’re very respectful to Chelsea in terms of how good they are, I just feel the whole hype of the game is a side issue.

“I would rather win on Saturday than win tonight. I hope we win both, but I would choose Saturday rather than Wednesday.”
