ONE of snookers most respected referees has lent his support to the Paul Hunter Foundation.

Alan Chamberlain, one of the game’s top officials, appeared at Padiham Snooker Club to pass on all his experience to budding players.

“It was a real coup to have Alan come along to one of our Academy sessions,” said Chris Lovell, North Lancs Training Group's World Snooker Coach on behalf of the Foundation.

“He was the first senior professional referee on the circuit and has refereed at the highest level for over 20 years. “It is vital that youngsters understand the rules of the game fully and also the sportsmanship that exists within our beautiful game."

The Paul Hunter Foundation began in September and each week 25 to 30 youngsters attend and receive expert tuition by World Snooker Grad A coaches, Paul Rinaldi and Lovell. The Foundation was set up in memory of three times Masters Champion, Paul Hunter, the popular and talented player who sadly lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 27.

The aim of the Foundation is to give disadvantaged, able-bodied and disabled youngsters an opportunity to play snooker.

In September, Lovell was tasked with leading the project in Lancashire; each week over 100 youngsters participate in the programme.
