CLARETS fans have proved they are willing to go the extra mile ahead of tonight’s cup clash with Chelsea.
Burnley FC supporters are travelling from locations across the globe to see Owen Coyle’s men in action at Stamford Bridge against the Premier League leaders.
In a discussion on website Clarets Mad, fans said that they were travelling from destinations including Northern Italy, Bordeaux, Prague and Madrid for the tie.
But the fan making the longest journey was ‘CaptJohn’, who was flying from Riyan, Yemen via Dubai.
John, terminal manager at a crude oil export facility in Yemen, will fly to Dubai and catch the EK017 Emirates flight to Manchester arriving at 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.
He said: “I've been a fan since 1964 so I've seen the best and worst of the Clarets!
“I saw all of the UEFA cup campaign which included the great 3-0 home win against Napoli.
“I think the Clarets will hold on for 1-1 against Chelsea and then we’ll win 5-4 on penalties.
"The last time I went to Chelsea for a mid-week match we were 3-0 down at half time and came back to draw 3-3.
"It was in the days of Super Casp and Dobbo though!”
Other website users have hailed John for his efforts this week and are hoping that the increased turn out in away fans will help the team overcome a fearless Chelsea side.
A club spokesman said: “This game has undoubtedly been embraced by Burnley fans, with over 6,000 making the trip to London.
“Clearly there are no boundaries to how far some Clarets fans will travel for big games and John is a shining example of that.
“We are delighted he is making the trip and we all hope the team can do him and the army of fans proud on the night at Stamford Bridge.”
Other hardcore fans include KentClaret1, who will be flying in from Windhoek in Namibia, Hotpies, setting off from Dumbarton and Sc0ttishClaret who will be coming down from Aberdeen.
