COLNE booked a home tie against New Mills in the third round of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup after a well-deserved victory over Congleton.
Colne opened the scoring on 40 minutes when Liam Garbutt latched on to a long clearance and headed past the advancing Rob Hackney.
Garbutt had to be carried off with a chest injury after colliding with Hackney but returned to add Colne’s second goal when he dribbled his way into the area and blasted home.
In the second half Colne keeper James Mann pulled off a great save at the foot of the post but Darren Twigg was credited with a goal from the rebound, even though the ball clearly had not crossed the line.
But Jamie Longley calmly passed the ball past the advancing Hackney to seal the win in the 75th minute.
