PAUL Ince was determined to take the positives from yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea after insisting Rovers’ second half display deserved more.

The Rovers boss admitted Chelsea dominated for the opening 45 minutes but insisted it could have been a different story after the break.

He was full of praise for man of the match goalkeeper Paul Robinson but was left bemoaning more bad luck, with his side now without a win in six.

He said: “When you are taking the game to one of the best teams in the world and get a chance to score, which we did, and you don’t take it you are always going to get punished.

“I said that you get one or two opportunities against teams like that and you have to take them but we didn’t.

“On a positive note I thought we were fantastic second half. Their goal killed us really.

“I am not sure if it was handball or if it hit his thigh but that is the luck these teams are getting. We haven’t had luck all season to be fair. But we have to take a lot of positives from the way we have played.”

With just three goals at Ewood in the Premier League this season, Ince knows they have to start showing a killer touch in front of goal.

But, with Keith Andrews and Vince Grella joining an ever-growing injury list, he insists his side need their share of the luck.

He said: “We passed the ball as much as the weather would allow us to and we got to the stage where Chelsea were trying to protect a 1-0 lead.

“As I say you win games on goals and we didn’t take ours. I said to the lads it was a fantastic performance.

“We are disappointed and frustrated because if we were not playing well we would be worried.

“We are playing so well and not getting the points we deserved.

“I just spoke to John Terry and he said we were fantastic second half. It does not get us three points but they know we are a good side.

“Things just keep rolling and it is disappointing. I want to get a settled side but players are getting injured every week and it seems to be the same players from my club.”

A stylish first-half Chelsea display could have seen them out of sight by half time, as Robinson further enhanced his chances of an England recall.

“Obviously Cech is probably one of the best in the world,” said Ince.

“But with the performances of my goalkeeper, as far as I am concerned he is back to his best. Some of the saves he made were outstanding.

“When you are playing these teams you have to hope your keeper plays well and you take the chances when you get them.”

Most of the Ewood faithful’s frustration at the final whistle was taken out on referee Chris Foy, having not awarded a penalty for a foul on Morten Gamst Pedersen by Jose Bosingwa, but Ince was not about to blame the officials for the defeat.

He said: “The ref missed the penalty on Morts.

“The one against Robinson I don’t think there is any contact.

"He could have given a penalty though and sent my goalkeeper off. I thought he did well.”
