BLACKBURN Hawks will look to build on last weekend’s impressive performances when they host Nottingham Lions at the Arena tomorrow night (face-off 5.45pm).
The local ice-hockey aces ended a four-match losing streak with a stunning 8-1 cup win over Kingston Jets seven days ago and will be full of confidence for this weekend’s league clash.
Hawks suffered a 5-2 defeat at home to the Lions only a fortnight ago, so will be out for revenge as they look to end a run of eight straight league defeats.
“I can’t see any reason why we should lose to the Lions this weekend,” said general manager Andy Slater.
“We lost against them last time, but we have improved in defence and are starting to create opportunities in attack as well.
“Nottingham are a good team and you can’t underestimate them, but when I compare their team to the talent we have on the bench, we should be able to take the points from this match.”
Hawks have also been boosted by the news that Aaron Davies has had his penalty rescinded from the game against Kingston, whilst Anthony Kinder’s spell on the sidelines through injury looks to have come to an end.
Davies was forced to sit out last Sunday’s defeat to Sheffield after being thrown out of the game against Kingston for an innocuous incident, whilst Kinder has missed the last seven matches with a soft tissue ankle injury sustained against Billingham in early October.
“Anthony is back in training and may or may not be available for Sunday,” added Slater. “Apart from that we have a full squad available, with no injuries or bans at this time.
“We’ve been working with the new lines for a few weeks now and things are looking more settled.
“Hopefully, with Aaron back as well, we’ll be celebrating a good win come tomorrow night.”
