BRIAN Jensen believes the only thing missing from Burnley’s recent performances is more goals for Steven Thompson.

The Clarets goalkeeper has been impressed by transfer-deadline day signing Thompson’s tireless work-rate up front, and insists it is no coincidence that his arrival coincided with the team’s upturn in form after a disastrous start to the season.

And Jensen is confident it is only a matter of time before the 29-year-old starts to add to the goals- for column.

Former Cardiff striker Thompson has just one goal from his first 11 appearances in a Burnley shirt, when his sharp flick directed Joey Gudjonsson’s initial shot past Nicky Weaver in the 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic last month.

But in the last outing against Norwich, he missed two golden first-half opportunities.

However, Jensen believes his luck will change.

“You’ve probably never seen a guy work harder than Steven Thompson,” he said.

“Him and Pato (Martin Paterson) are probably among the hardest working in the team at the moment, but the thing Steven Thompson needs is a goal to get his confidence back – although it doesn’t seem to be a lack of confidence because he’s standing in the right positions.

“But all credit to him, he’s working really hard and just keeps going.

“But now for his sake, and for everybody’s sake, we just want him to have a couple of goals now. And they will come, definitely.”
