A FRUSTRATED Vince Grella believes a strong mentality both collectively and personally will ensure good times are just around the corner at Ewood Park.

Rovers’ Australian has struggled to make an impact in Lancashire since arriving from Torino this summer but insists the collective will to succeed can inspire him through his own injury woes.

Grella’s £4million switch has failed to really get going due to calf and hamstring problems but, as Rovers prepare for Sunday’s visit of Chelsea, the midfielder is confident better times are ahead.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion was only Grella’s third start of the campaign and, despite disappointment at not getting maximum points, he insists their late, late show should provide huge encouragement for the future.

He said: “It was an interesting game from start to finish. From the penalty decision to the sending off, it conditioned the game a little bit one way or another.

“Even though I think we started off the second half not in the best way, we let them back in the game but we hung on and went for the equaliser and got it because we really wanted it.

“It was a positive sign. We have got to be happy with the point in the end. I think it just showed how much the Blackburn players wanted that draw.

“That never-say-die spirit is the attitude we need to have. That is the attitude, that is the mentality but we can also bring a bit of football to that.

“I think we can play. We have a lot of good players and having a strong mentality and playing the right football is the right mix.”

Grella has already admitted Rovers fans are yet to see the best of him in England but has no doubt he will thrive in a determined Ewood atmosphere.

He should continue in the heart of the midfield for Sunday’s visit of Chelsea and has warned Scolari’s multi-million pound stars they are in for a battle.

“I am a little bit frustrated at the moment,” he said. “Just trying to get fully fit is frustrating for me but I am doing everything I can to keep myself on the pitch and pay back the faith the club has had in me.

“I have never been injury prone before but I just have to stay mentally strong and I think it helps being in a squad that has such a strong mental attitude.

“Chelsea will be another tough game for us but we are playing at Ewood and will try to take the game to them and see what we can get out of it.

“Strength of character cannot be under-played and that is in huge amounts at this club. I have seen that already in my time here.”
