STEVEN Thompson missed the best of a host of Burnley chances, while Clarke Carlisle had two attempts cleared off the line in a frantic first half.
After Darel Russel hit a shot wide inside the first minute, Burnley went on to dominate.
Thompson hit the post in a one-on-one with goalkeeper David Marshall before Carlisle was thwarted by Elliot Omozusi then Mark Fotheringham in the 10th minute.
Thompson looked set to benefit from Marshall's error seven minutes before the break, when the Norwich goalkeeper spilled Chris Eagles' low drive. But when the ball ran through for Thompson, the striker blazed over from a tight angle.
