RARE match programmes of Blackburn Rovers and Burnley FA Cup triumphs from the early 20th Century are going under the hammer.
It is expected that the programmes, especially rare because they were from the Royal Box, could fetch up to £5,500 at auction.
They were produced for the 1914 Burnley v Liverpool final, and for the 1928 Blackburn v Huddersfield final.
Comparatively few were produced. Both are bound into indigo blue leather covers and feature the gilt-tooled royal coat of arms.
The Burnley v Liverpool programme is valued at between £3,000 and £4,000, more than double the £1,000 to £1,500 price tag on the later Black-burn v Huddersfield programme.
The Burnley programme is a souvenir from the only time the club has won the famous old trophy, beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final at Crystal Palace in London.
It was the first time that a reigning monarch, King George V, attended an FA Cup final, and he presented the cup to Burnley captain Tommy Boyle.
It was also the last FA Cup final staged at Crystal Palace.
Burnley FC director Paul Fletcher said: “The club will look at the possibility of buying the programme.
“In the future the club will look towards a museum being part of the stadium re-development and items of history will be prevalent.”
Any programmes from FA Cup finals staged before 1923 – the year an FA Cup final was staged at Wembley for the first time – are rarer and therefore more valuable.
Both programmes are coming up for sale at Graham Budd Auctions, at Sotheby’s Olympia, London, on November 12.
At the same auction a normal 1928 Blackburn v Huddersfield FA Cup final programme, which cost sixpence new, is expected to fetch between £700 and £800.
The match was the last time Rovers won the FA Cup, beating Huddersfield 3-1.
