The Blackburn and District CTC had an outstanding day on Sunday in regaining their Team Title and Adam Pinder retaining his Junior Title in the National Hill Climb Championship held on the one-in-five ascent of Bank Road at Matlock.

Pinder, 18, of Rishton was not only their fastest rider up the 843-metre climb in the centre of the Derbyshire town but led his team-mates Ian Stott and Chris Edmondson to the coveted team race award for the first time since the CTC club last won it in 2002.

Pinder’s time of 2 minutes 34.6 seconds was actually eighth best of the 150 competitors and only 10 seconds behind the Midlands based overall winner Matt Clinton.

With Stott clocking 2m 41s and Edmondson 2m 45s the CTC squad placed all three in the top 20 finishers and were easy winners of the Team Trophy breaking the five-year domination by the Arctic squad.

The CTC’s fourth man Paul Smith returned a time of 3m 17s, while Worsthorne’s Simon Wilson clocked 2m 51.7 and Rossendale’s John Ealing 3m 07.2s, with Burnley’s Jimmy Wright a non-starter.
