OWEN Coyle was encouraged by his side's performance, which extends their recent run to just one defeat in 13.

"I think it was a terrific game for the Championship, particularly in the second half," said the Burnley manager.

"I thought the first half was dominated by ourselves, and when all's said and done the game should have been out of sight by half-time.

"I thought the level of quality we showed and the opportunities we created, the passing and movement, it was everything we're asking for.

"But again, while it's 1-0 there's always a chance that Charlton could get back in the game.

"We knew they'd come out rallying in the second half. I felt we withstood the pressure they had for 10 minutes or so, and within that we still looked very dangerous on the counter-attack.

"We had a few opportunities to put the game to bed and never took them.

"Ultimately we've switched off at a set play, which we'd well warned the lads about what to expect because they've got good delivery and movement, and we paid a heavy price.

"That's when the excitement came in because it was end-to-end after that, with both teams committing players forward and going for three points as opposed to one."
