PADIHAM’S charge up the Vodkat League First Division table continued with a 2-1 win at Cheadle Town to leapfrog the Cheshire side into third place.

But the Arbories side had to do it the hard way, coming from a goal behind after Arron Riley put the home team in front on 28 minutes.

Padiham drew level six minutes before the break when Paul Fildes drifted in to the area and clipped a ball across goal, which was turned in at the back post by Chris Ridehalgh.

The winner on 52 minutes was a real cracker when Ridehalgh powered through midfield before unleashing a rocket of a shot that flew past Cheadle’s on-loan goalkeeper Peter Mellor.

The Storks had a number of chances to increase their lead before the final whistle and had a goal disallowed when substitute Paul Barrett’s close-range effort was ruled out for offside.
