RAMSBOTTOM lost their unbeaten run thanks to an embarrassing blunder by the match referee.
Andy Sensale put the Rams in front on four minutes in the Vodkat League Premier Division encounter but Alsager equalised a minute later through James.
However, the referee got it all wrong when he awarded a penalty kick to Alsager in the 53rd minute after the ball struck the hand of one of their own players.
The Rams failed to create anything meaningful after their opening goal and this must be a worry for manager Andy Feeley.
