A HORROR knee injury has ruled Accrington Stanley defender Peter Murphy out for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old is facing surgery after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament in a reserve match against Carlisle earlier this month.

“Peter Murphy’s got to have a full reconstruction of his knee, so he’s going to be out for the season and that’s a blow for us,” said John Coleman.

“He’s been in every squad, and it’s a blow for him, but it can’t be the end.

"He’s got to work hard and get himself back to full fitness.”
