OWEN Coyle has warned Burnley against taking their foot off the gas, after breaking into the top six for the second time this season.

The Clarets climbed back into the play-off positions following an impressive turnaround at Coventry City in midweek, which extended their recent run to just one defeat in 12 games.

But the Burnley boss knows there will be no room for complacency at The Valley tomorrow, despite Charlton languishing fifth from bottom following a run of four defeats in five games.

“I think Charlton have got some terrific players. Obviously Andy (Gray) we know well because he served this club very well, so we’re going to have to be at our best to get anything from the game, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.

“Charlton are a magnificent club; the players will be hurt by the couple of losses they’ve had of late, so they’ll be looking to come out like a wounded animal.

"We’re going to be in for a real test and we have to make sure we’re ready for it.

“With the amount of games that we play thick and fast it’s important that we recover well so that we’re nice and fresh to give our best on Saturday.

“And we’re going to have to be at our best to get anything from the game.”

Coyle was just three games into his Turf Moor reign when Burnley last went to the Valley and recorded a second successive win in the capital.

The 42-year-old is confident that his club has progressed since then, but would nevertheless relish a repeat performance.

“From start to finish we were magnificent in that game,” he recalled.

“Charlton’s a difficult place to go and get points, but we did and we did it in a manner that was pleasing on the eye.

"We passed and moved that ball really well last year, but it was last year; this year will be a completely different game, but we’ll look to go and be positive and try to impress ourselves in the match and take it from there.

“I think as a football club I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’ve developed.

“We have come on since last year, there’s no doubt about it, in terms of even the age of the squad and the quality and everything else we’re trying to do.

“We want to continue with that.

“As I’ve said before we really are just a work in progress.

"For me, we’ve got a long, long way to go to get near what I think we’d be looking for.

"I think we’re in the early stages of trying to get to where we believe is a sustainable thing for the football club, and by that I mean both the team on the park and everything we’re doing off it.”
