CHRIS Eagles insists he doesn’t have a point to prove to manager Owen Coyle as he strives to ignite his Burnley career.

The flying winger is pushing hard for a starting place at Turf Moor after inspiring the Clarets to their 3-1 Championship victory at Coventry on Tuesday night.

With the game heading for a draw, Eagles teed up Robbie Blake in the 88th minute with a clever ball which the Clarets striker put away and then he capped off an impressive 20-minute display with a spectacular strike moments later.

His dazzling cameo may now be enough to convince Coyle that he is worthy of starting Saturday’s away clash at Charlton Athletic.

The £1million summer signing started in each of the club’s first six games, until he was red carded at Plymouth for lashing out at an opponent.

A three-match suspension followed and he has since been restricted to substitute appearances.

But as he works hard to regain a permanent place in Coyle’s starting line-up, the former Manchester United youngster admits he is desperate to keep up his fine form.

“I want to please everyone, not just the gaffer; I want to please the fans, myself, my family,” said the 22-year-old.

“When I’m not starting that's all I can do, just get on, score, create goals and cause havoc for the opposite.

“I’m not proving a point, I’m just doing what I know I can do. When I get on I always love playing with a smile on my face; it’s what I love doing.

“If I’m sub or I don’t play, I’m just going to give 100 per cent and just enjoy my football.”

However, Eagles acknowledges that while sixth-placed Burnley continue their good run of form, he may have to accept sitting on the bench.

He said: “Sometimes, we haven’t always played well but have got results, so when you get on and do well you’re still in the same boat.

“I just want to get on and keep doing what I’m doing. The gaffer’s pleased with me and the team’s doing brilliant, that’s all that I can ask for.

“If we can keep winning, I’ll sit on the bench, and if we get promoted I’ll be happy sitting on the bench and coming on.”

But Eagles is confident that he can offer the Clarets something different in their quest to reach the Premier League.

The young Englishman has become accustomed to life in the Championship, following loan stints at Watford and Sheffield Wednesday earlier in his career, and he believes the experience has brought the best out of him.

“I wouldn’t say it’s easier (in the Championship) but I feel a lot more comfortable,” said Eagles. “I’ve grown up a lot and I believe in my talent more.

“I’m just going to let my football do the talking and let people talk about me.”
