IT was another very successful weekend for Great Harwood’s hill climbing star Adam Pinder, who was a clear winner on the Nick o’ Pendle on Sunday morning and then went on to win his own Blackburn and District CTC climb in the afternoon.

Eighteen-year-old Pinder crested the ‘Nick’ only 3 minutes and 50.1 seconds after leaving Sabden village, beating clubmate Chris Edmondson (4m 4.9s) into second with ex-national road race Cchampion Dave Cook (4m 6.2s) third and Ian Stott (4m 7.1s) fourth.

The Blackburn and District CTC were easily team winners with three in the top four places.

Later that day, on the shorter but steep climb of Marl Hill near Newton, Pinder clocked a fraction over one minute with Paul Smith second, Stott third and Edmondson fourth.

Next Sunday, the local CTC club will field Pinder, Stott, Smith and Edmondson in a field of 150 for the 2008 National Hill Climb Championship to be held on a 834-metre average 14 per cent climb in the centre of Matlock.

Additionally, Simon Wilson of Worsthorne, Jimmy Wright of Burnley and John Ealing of Rossendale are entered for the title race, in which Pinder will be defending his junior title won in the 2007 Championship at Cheddar Gorge.
