TIMELY substitutions swung it, but manager Owen Coyle praised a team effort as Burnley came from behind against Coventry City to climb to sixth in the Championship table.

Michael Duff's early second-half strike, which cancelled out Elliott Ward's penalty, put the Clarets on the road to extending their recent good run of form to just one defeat in 12 games.

But Robbie Blake and Chris Eagles came off the bench to give their respective causes to return to the starting line-up a shot in the arm with a goal each in the dying minutes.

“There’s no doubts we deserved that,” said Coyle.

“We didn’t feel we should have been down at the interval and I have my own opinions on the penalty.

“I think it’s fair to say we felt a little aggrieved at half-time and although I can understand why the penalty was given, I think the lad (Michael Mifsud) went down very easily, which makes it difficult for referees.

“We knew it was going to be tough coming here, but to go a goal down at half-time and show that level of performance in the second half was terrific.

“We had numerous opportunities and I felt it was only a matter of time until we got the goal.

“It was a great finish from Michael and then we went for the win.

"In doing that you are always going to risk losing the game, but we felt three points were more important.

“It could have backfired on us, but it didn’t and the quality of the goals was there for everyone to see."

He added: “To have that quality augurs well for the future of the club.

“All credit to the lads. At half-time I asked them to trust each other and retain the belief and they did that.

“We are never going to play outstanding every week, but those players have shown hunger and desire and got their rewards.

“It is always pleasing when your substitutes come on and make an impact in a game.

“Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But we changed the system and had to change again because Chris McCann came off with an injury.

“Everyone did their bit and nothing fazed them and as a manager that is all you can ask.”
