CAPTAIN Steven Caldwell hopes goalscorer Chris McCann can fulfil his Premier League ambitions with Burnley.

The midfielder scored his second in as many games to put the Clarets in the driving seat against leaders Birmingham City, only to see it cancelled out by substitute Cameron Jerome's tap-in 14 minutes from time.

Afterwards, manager Owen Coyle insisted McCann was capable of playing of playing in the top flight “tomorrow”.

But Caldwell hopes the 21-year-old Dubliner can play his part in a collective effort to achieve promotion.

“Since I first came to the club I always thought Chris McCann’s a fantastic player with huge potential and I think this season he’s taken it on a level, or two,” he said.

“He's so strong on the ball and has really got a bit of everything because he can play in different positions as well.

"He can slot into so many areas and he's quick and powerful. He seems to pick his runs late and he can get goals.

“He's really a fantastic player, and I hope it's with us that he's going to the Premiership, but he's certainly going to move up levels in the near future.

“I really hope it's with us and we can fulfil his ambitions by improving as a team, and he can keep his feet on the ground and keep learning and improving as a player.”
