CLITHEROE progressed to the next round of the FA Trophy with a superb team performance at their Premier Division hosts.
Clitheroe started brightly and took an early eighth minute lead when a poor back pass saw Carl Lomax close in on goal before calmly slotting home past the advancing keeper.
Further chances fell in a dominant first half showing with Anthony Johnson’s fierce drive saved and then he was unlucky after winning a race to a loose ball before seeing his lob over the keeper and bounce clear.
As expected, Bradford made a couple of substitutions for the second half but Clitheroe were matching them for effort and creating chances.
Bradford then had a good spell of pressure and they equalised in the 80th minute from a close range header in a packed goal area to set up a tense final 10 minutes.
The Blues took the lead in the 85th minute when sub Chris Ward advanced through the middle before passing to Carl Lomax out wide on the right and his low cross was met by Scott Redhead at the far post to fire home.
And it could have been even more comprehensive in stoppage time when sub Mark Sharples was felled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Barry Shuttleworth’s penalty was saved but Clitheroe still went through.
