ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman hailed Terry Gornell’s match-winning performance at Luton after extending the 18-year-old striker’s loan from Tranmere for another month.

Gornell scored his first senior goal against Bradford last week and his second-half strike proved to be difference at Kenilworth Road as Stanley picked up their first win since August.

Coleman has moved to keep Gornell at the Fraser Eagle Stadium for another month – he will now be available at least until the home game against Bournemouth on November 15 – and said: “Terry’s work rate was magnificent and I’m really delighted he’s got a goal.

“That’s two in two for him and it will do his confidence the world of good.”

Stanley were hit hard by the manner in which they squandered a 2-0 lead to lose against Bradford seven days earlier.

But Coleman, who handed a debut to centre back Kieran Charnock but did not need to bring on fellow loanee Kallum Higginbotham, had a feeling that his players may respond and was delighted with their hard-working display.

“I did fancy us after last week because I know how much it hurt the lads,” he said.

“This doesn’t totally wash out the memory of last week but it eases it, like a little bit of medicine.

“We still have to remember that game, learn the lesson from it and make it a positive experience.

“But our keeper Kenny Arthur made a comment, ‘I can start liking football again now’, and I think that’s very much the case.

“It can get you down but we’ve tried to keep the players’ spirits up and maybe the two lads coming in have given us a bit of a lift.

“Kieran was a bit disappointed to get booked but he stuck to his task well and got stronger as the game went on.”
