PAUL Ince admits Jason Roberts missed a golden chance to silence nemesis Gary Megson for good after his blunder left Rovers rueing two lost points.

The Rovers boss could not help reflecting on the striker’s close-range miss as a key moment.

Roberts and Megson’s West Brom bust-up has been well-publicised ever since the striker’s exit but, having hit the winner in last season’s fixture, Ince believes a repeat would have been the perfect riposte.

He said: “He’s gutted because we’ve all seen that him and Megson didn’t get on so it was a chance for him to stick two fingers up at him.

“He’s got to score the goal. I feel great that we came away with a clean sheet but when you’ve got a chance like that, you’ve got to score and that was three points.

“We deserved the three points. We hit the bar with Carlos’ shot and we looked like the only team that was going to win the game.

“In the last 10 or 15 minutes, we looked a lot stronger and we went 4-4-2 in the last 10 minutes and Benni McCarthy had a chance.”
