BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle might have taken a point before the game, but after leading the Championship table toppers for 76 minutes will surely feel it was two points dropped.
Chris McCann sent the Clarets into the half-time break with his second goal in as many games, as he rose to meet Martin Paterson's cross to send a downwards header beyond Maik Taylor.
He should have had a second soon afterwards but thumped a free header wide.
Burnley dominated possession and chances, and it wasn't until 12 minutes into the second half that Birmingham recorded their first attempt at goal. Kevin Phillips' mis-hit left-footer was never in any danger of troubling Brian Jensen.
But on a quick break from a corner, City substitutes James McFadden and Cameron Jerome combined to penetrate the Clarets' defence.
Jensen advanced to block McFadden's shot, but the ball stayed on target to allow Jerome the chance to prod the equaliser into an empty net.
Burnley had late chances to snatch a winner, but had to settle for a point despite McCann and Wade Elliott's best efforts.
