LANCASHIRE pride was kept intact this afternoon as Rovers and Bolton played out a scrappy goalless draw at the Reebok Stadium.

Paul Ince's men shaded the better of the chances but in truth there was little to shout about in a dour local derby.

Rovers started the second half brighter and Jason Roberts almost handed them the lead on 50 minutes.

The powerful striker raced onto Robbie Fowler's lobbed pass but was forced to turn when it looked as though he would have a chance to shoot.

Gavin McCann's speculative strike deflected of Chris Samba to loop just over the bar on 64 minutes as both sides still struggled to break the other down.

Matt Taylor bent a shot inches wide midway half through the half while at the other end Roberts saw a shot blocked by Gretar Steinsson after a bustling run into Bolton's box.

Rovers finished strongly but, apart from two Benni McCarthy half chances, were unable to break the hosts down.

Before the break, Carlos Villanueva had hit the bar with a crashing 20 yard drive and Roberts headed wide unmarked from just yards out.
