ROVERS boss Paul Ince has again questioned the need for formal coaching qualifications - accusing UEFA of “just another money-spinning exercise”.

The rookie Premier League boss has moved a step nearer his UEFA Pro Licence badge this week but admits he still does not understand why managers are made to take them.

Ince needed special dispensation from the Premier League to start his Ewood Park era this summer and revealed it would be another year at least until his is fully qualified.

He insists he will continue to do what is needed to establish himself as a top-flight boss but again called for the rules to be reviewed.

He said: “Sometimes you wonder if it is a money-spinning thing for UEFA.

“People have been in the game for 20 years so why do they need these badges?

“They know enough about the game, have experienced enough of the game and have worked with managers who are the best in the business but that is the facts and something you have to do to be Premier League manager.”

Ince completed his second week of courses at Ewood Park last week and revealed the practical work was a lot better than the educational side of it.

He said: “I know it has to be done and to be fair I have enjoyed it. The coaching outside has been great. It gives you a different insight into what goes on as a coach but the classroom just does my head in.

“It is hard because there has been so much rubbish going on, it was a time where I could have got away with my family for a week. The fact you are here doing it means you can’t really get away from it.

“All I could think about was what players will come back fit and that type of stuff.

“That was my second week, I have done level 2 and level 3 now so it is just a case of doing my final assessment in May and then I have to get my pro licence the year after.”
