STEVE Jones hopes his loan move to League One Huddersfield Town does not spell the end of his Burnley career.

The 31-year-old linked up with former Clarets manager Stan Ternent after agreeing a one-month deal at the Galpharm Stadium yesterday, which could be extended beyond the end of November.

But while the Northern Ireland international is desperate for regular, first-team football, he has not given up hope of featuring for the Clarets in the final year of his contract.

“The gaffer’s brought quite a lot of good players in, which has made it even tougher, but I wouldn’t mind getting a chance to show what I can do. I’ve just got to knuckle down and work hard,” he said.

“I thought I did quite well in pre-season but it’s October now and I’ve not really had a sniff after doing well in pre-season games.

“The gaffer said it would be good for me to go out and get some games so we’ll see what happens.”

Jones was labelled “one of the best Bosman signings of the summer” by former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill, who snapped him up from Crewe Alexandra in 2006.

But, after scoring twice on his debut to earn a 2-0 win over QPR, the former Chorley striker has struggled to live up to his early promise.

Jones, who can play up front or wide left, was pushed further down the pecking order following the recent signings of Martin Paterson, Steven Thompson and Chris Eagles and has yet to make an appearance this term.

“Steve will be joining Huddersfield for a month initially with our best wishes. He goes there with the chance to play some games and we'll take it from there,” said Burnley manager Owen Coyle.
