KEVIN Davies is in the most prolific goalscoring form of his career - helping him to forget his ‘nightmare’ Blackburn Rovers spell back in 1998.

Having burst on the scene with Chesterfield and Southampton, Davies arrived at Ewood Park in the summer of 1998 as a fresh faced 21-year-old following his big money switch from the Saints.

Rovers parted with £7.5m for his services, but a season with so much promise and potential became one to forget for Davies as injury restricted his campaign to just 27 appearances, in which he bagged only two goals.

He said: “It’s ten years ago now and although you always want to do well against your former teams, it’s just the next game for Bolton.

“It was a pretty awful year at Blackburn really.

"I didn’t play many games through injuries and illnesses plus we ended up getting relegated, so it was a season to forget.

“Relegation was hard to take, but not being involved and not being happy at the club made it a tough year.

"At the end of the season I played a couple of matches and I got the chance to move back to Southampton to try and put the previous 12 months behind me.”
