AS Jimmy Greaves used to say - "Football's a funny old game, Saint."

I don't think there's a game like it where you can feel two entirely opposite emotions about the same people.

After the international break, the Premier League and Football League kicks back into gear and football fans can get back to being fickle.

With the three lions on their chest, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand are heroes in white.

But once they pull on their club jerseys, you can go back to hating them and the balance is restored.

I call this the Darth Vader effect.

In his black garb as the Dark Lord of the Sith, you want to boo and hiss at him every time he appears on the screen.

But once he's uncloaked, you can't help but love the kindly Anakin Skywalker.

And it's the same with footie fans. But that's what makes it the beautiful game it is.

So as you get ready to support which ever club you follow this afternoon, may the force be with you!
