PAUL Robinson has promised Rovers fans his best is yet to come as he sets his sights on a first-team recall at Bolton tomorrow.

The England goalkeeper missed the last two Rovers’ games with a calf injury but has declared himself fit to challenge his replacement Jason Brown for the gloves at the Reebok Stadium.

Robinson’s £3.5million summer move to Ewood from Spurs has seen him rediscover the form that saw him become the country’s number one but he insists there is still plenty more to come.

He said: “It has been frustrating for me because I was hitting form again and felt my game was coming back together.

“There is much more from me to come, the Blackburn fans have a lot more to see from me.

“I was starting to get settled and was really enjoying it, so it could not have come at a worse time for me.”

Brown has staked his claim for the starting slot though with assured performances against Everton, Newcastle and Manchester United, leaving boss Paul Ince a tough decision.

“It has been a difficult one for me because I am not used to being injured,” said Robinson. “But it has reacted well to the treatment and I have been back in training for the last few days.

“Looking at it I think I did it against Fulham at the weekend, did not think it was serious, but made it worse on the Wednesday against Everton. That is me wanting to play and I have always been like that.

“It is difficult to watch your team playing. Browny has come in and done reasonably well. It was nice for him to play because he has not played many games in recent years and hopefully I can keep it that way.

“You always want the team to do well. The boys did well up at Newcastle but I think we were disappointed with how we did against Manchester United. We gave them too much respect.”

While his former Tottenham team mates languish near the bottom of the Premier League, Robinson has been impressed with the start Paul Ince’s men have made to the campaign.

He accepts they have suffered some disappointing results along the way but is confident the club is heading in the right direction.

He said: “There is a real camaraderie in the squad and I think we are all pulling in the same direction.

“Bolton is not an easy place to go. I remember getting relegated there when I was with Leeds a few years ago.

“I think you can waste a lot of time worrying about the opposition and what they are going to do to you, rather than what you can do to them.

“I think we have done alright. There are games we could have done better in but also games we have surprised ourselves in. I don’t think a top ten finish is unrealistic for us this year.”
