BLACKBURN Rovers striker Jason Roberts is out to maintain his Bolton Wanderers midas touch and pile further misery on his old foe Gary Megson in the Lancashire derby tomorrow.

Roberts and Bolton boss Megson fell out during their time at West Brom and, with Roque Santa Cruz fighting a hamstring injury, the striker would like nothing better than prove his former boss’ nemesis once again - after his winner downed Bolton at the Reebok last time around.

At the other end Davies can expect some jeers from the travelling faithful, after his £7.5million switch to Ewood went horribly wrong, but, 10 years on, the powerful striker will be looking to prove his own point.

Megson handed Roberts his shot at the big time when he brought him to then Championship West Brom for a club record £2million fee in July 2000.

A failed play-off campaign and promotion followed for the Baggies but a much publicised bust-up brought the parting of the ways for the duo.

Roberts said: “It was a great feeling scoring the winner last time out.

"Not because of Gary Megson, to be honest I don’t think about him any more, but because it was such an important one.

“I had to move away from West Brom for my career but I have nothing against the club, it was just the manager I didn't see eye to eye with.

“He did pay a lot of money and I think I paid him back with my performances.

"We got promoted and we got in the play-offs the first year - we had a great bunch of lads and I enjoyed playing with the players there, I think I’ll leave it at that.

“I guess from a manager’s point of view you are not going to get on with everyone.

"From my point of view I did not particularly like the way he dealt with people, but I guess that is not his problem.”

Bolton’s Reebok Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Roberts, with three wins and a draw from his last four visits, and he is no mood to relax his own personal crusade against Rovers rivals - with local pride at stake.

“You know if you win the game your fans go home with one over their mates,” he said.

“We were fortunate enough to win both games last season and we want to keep that feeling.

“I have done well against Bolton in my career. I have good memories from my last win and any result over your rivals is important.

“For games like this you feel that extra pressure in the build-up to it.

"The fans are desperate to get one over on their local rivals and of course we feel that. I think we are all looking forward to it.”
