JOHN Williams has called for midweek internationals to be brought forward a day as he waits on the return of his globe-trotting squad with bated breath.

Rovers chairman is the latest of a growing number asking for a review of the World Cup qualifying fixture list, labelling the current demands on his players as ridiculous.

A host of Paul Ince’s squad were in action for their countries last night, as the race to South Africa 2010 continued, but the extent of any damage done to their domestic league fortunes is unknown.

Rovers travel to Bolton on Saturday for a Premier League clash, with Roque Santa Cruz an injury doubt and Steven Reid still out, and Williams is keeping his fingers crossed there are no more injury woes.

He said: “I don’t understand why they don’t bring the second international game forward one day to the Tuesday.

“That would give everyone an extra day to recover ahead of the weekend Premier League fixture list.

“The way it is currently makes things very difficult.

"Some of these players we won’t see until early Friday morning. It does make preparations very hard.”
