Rugby league club Swinton Lions have decided against relocating to Darwen’s Anchor Ground for the 2009 National League Two season.
The financially stricken Lions will instead stay at Sedgley Park RUFC in Whitefield but have confirmed that they remain keen to establish professional rugby league in Darwen.
Swinton head coach Paul Kidd said: “We believe that there is an exciting future for rugby league in that part of East Lancashire and the Lions can play their part in helping grow rugby league in the north west.”
