ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has revealed that last season’s sensational giant-killing of Bradford City was the highlight of his managerial career.

The Reds entertain the Yorkshire sleeping-giants at the Fraser Eagle Stadium this afternoon hoping to end a miserable seven-game winless streak.

But Coleman knows it will be difficult against a side regarded among the favourites for League Two promotion this term.

However, the Reds proved they are capable of producing a shock result over the Bantams, following last October’s 3-0 victory at Valley Parade.

For the Stanley manager, that away-day triumph, against a club that was plying its trade in the Premier League just eight years ago, ranks highest among his achievements, even surpassing guiding Accrington into the Football League in 2006.

“That win was the highlight of last season and it was the highlight of my career, without a doubt,” said Coleman.

“It was one of the best performances I have had a team turn in.

“About 10 years ago, we were playing Bradford Park Avenue in the UniBond League and that shows you how far we’ve come since.

“But we still have to be ambitious and we don’t want to stop here. We want to progress.”

Stuart McCall’s men are used to playing in front of home crowds in excess of 12,000 and Coleman still believes that Stanley’s modest stadium can serve to make life uncomfortable for the Bantams.

He added: “The manager and a few of their players have already been here, but it still should serve as a wake-up call to our fans where we are – the fact that they’re coming here in a league game.

“It’s testament to what we’ve been able to achieve over the last few years.”
