ROSSENDALE UTD 1 OSSETT ALBION 1 AFTER two consecutive traumatic Saturdays, Rossendale secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against UniBond First Division North title challengers Ossett Albion at Dark Lane.

Rossendale included new signing Greg Hall in goal and he made two excellent early saves to steady the nerves. The two best chances of the half fell to Phil Eastwood, who saw his shots saved.

After 58 minutes a lengthy disruption in play seemed to cause the Rossendale defence to lose concentration and Gareth Hamlet headed in Michael Senior’s left-wing corner at the near post.

Not to be outdone, Rossendale were level on 75 minutes when Marcus Calvert beat two defenders and slipped the ball to Phil Eastwood, whose partially saved shot was scrambled home by Matt Eckersley.

From then on Rossendale had the better of the game and on at least two occasions had chances to secure the three points but their efforts scraped just the wrong side of the post.
