BURNLEY took revenge for their defeat at Turf Moor at the hands of Preston last season with a victory in this action-packed Lancashire derby.
Martin Paterson missed a glorious chance in the opening minute after Darren Carter's woeful back-pass before Barry Nicholson's volley put Preston into the lead after 22 minutes.
Joey Gudjonsson restored parity 11 minutes later with a 35-yard piledriver as the Clarets took control.
Steven Caldwell made it 2-1 on 65 minutes before Preston were reduced to 10 men when Callum Davidson was sent off for deliberate handball five minutes later.
And, right at the death, Chris Eagles scored a third after a swift Clarets counter-attack to seal a famous win and stretch their unbeaten run to eight games.
