DANNY Burns has hit the bullseye after landing one of the top jobs in county darts — and paid tribute to the two men who persuaded him it was all worthwhile.

Burns has just been named the Lancashire County secretary after he was voted in to the post at the recent executive meeting.

Burns knows he has a tough task as he steps in to the experienced shoes of Bruce Boniface who held the post for 28 years and was a member of the executive for more than 30 years.

But Burns, who orginates from Northern Ireland, hailed friends Ian Lever and Lancashire and England International Andy Gudgeon for encouraging him to join the Lancashire commitee.

“It is going to be the hardest job I have ever done in darts,” said Burns who is also chairman of the Blackburn and District Darts and Dominoes League. “But to be one of 64 secretaries in England, Scotland and Wales, I am just over the moon.

“It’s all down to my friends Ian and Andy who persuaded me to go for it when I was first invited on the Lancashire committee,” added Danny who has now served the county for 12 years. “If it wasn’t for them, then I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Burns has stepped down from his duty Lancashire Super League secretary after 11 years to concentrate on his new role.

“I’m going to be busier than ever so there was no way I could carry out both roles.

“It’s going to be tough but I am really looking forward to it.”

It’s one of three major landmarks for Burns this year who turns 50 next month and also celebrates his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife Denise.

“It’s all good news,” added Burns. “The one disappoint-ment is that my dad is not alive to see this happen.

“For he was the one who started me off in darts.”

And there is more good news for the Blackburn and District Darts and Dominoes League after signing a two year contract with the New Railway Sport & Socal Club.

The deal with the Bolton Road club is worth £2,000 which will go towards darts and dominoes singles and doubles knockout comp-etitions.

“This is a fantastic deal for us and we have never had a deal like this before.”
