Tyrhys Dolan says John Eustace has given him the “freedom” to shine at Rovers – and hopes to keep repaying the head coach’s faith.

The winger played a key role in the win against Leeds and his tricky dribbling earned the penalty which Todd Cantwell stuck away for the winner.

Dolan is loving his football under Eustace and hopes to kick on in the coming weeks as Rovers aim to keep building momentum.

“He gives me the freedom to be who I want to be and tells me all the time, even the day before in training when I should have had a shot but turned it down,” the youngster told RoversTV.

“He said to go forward and shoot, he gives me the belief that I can go out there and get at players. Credit to him and I have got to believe in myself when I am out there.

“He has put belief in me and made me love my football. I enjoy going out there at the weekend and training every day.

“He has made it a positive place and somewhere I can be myself. I feel like he gets me and hopefully I can keep repaying him on the pitch with performances like that.

It was another impressive display by Rovers against a side who could have gone top of the league with victory at Ewood Park.

Dolan insists that recent results are down to their hard work on the training pitch and hopes the squad can keep showing their quality on matchdays.

“It felt really good, I am buzzing,” he smiled. “It has been a great week for us and merits all the hard work we have been putting in.

“It definitely shows the quality we have in the team and not only that, but the hard work. Everyone is putting in 110 per cent and running for each other, we are a family out there.

“It all comes from how hard you work. We have not got as much as Leeds and the top end of the Championship, but we merit ourselves on hard work and that will shine through.”

Rovers faced nine minutes of stoppage time on Saturday but stood firm to secure the three points and another clean sheet.

Dolan was proud of his team-mates’ resilience against one of the top scorers in the division and hailed the supporters for helping them get over the line in the final stages.

“That is every credit on the training pitch, we do a lot of unit work. We are really understanding defending as a unit and defending the box,” he said.

“We seem like a tough team to break down and nine minutes of added time against Leeds is difficult, but every credit to the boys. We saw that out well and hopefully we can keep doing it.

“The fans play every part. It is not just the 11 men out on the pitch, it is every supporter in the stadium.

“As an attacker, you want to do your individual parts but collectively, off the ball, you can see the work we are all putting in for each other and that is the main thing.”
