Burnley will make a late call on Josh Brownhill’s fitness ahead of this weekend’s trip to Stoke City.

The midfielder picked up a knock against Bristol City last weekend and was absent from the squad that beat Coventry on Tuesday night.

“He was on the grass today, (his training) was modified but he was on the grass,” Scott Parker explained.

“Obviously, he got a knock on Saturday and Tuesday came about a bit too early for him. We will see where we are tomorrow with Josh in terms of making a call on him.

“He has progressed well and like I said is on the grass, but he didn’t fully train today. We will see where we are when making a decision for Saturday.”

Parker inherited a lengthy injury list upon his arrival at Turf Moor but is optimistic that things are heading in the right direction on that front.

“It has been well documented in terms of the injury we have had. We picked up a couple more in the last couple of weeks,” the head coach continued.

“But some good signs with a few of the lads now and people on the grass - Lyle Foster, Joe Worrall back in training, Hjalmar (Ekdal) and Hannes (Delcroix) have been in and around the training group for some weeks.

“Probably the next stage for those boys is getting them some game time with the 21s maybe and getting them up to speed that way.

“Overall, we are moving in the right direction regarding the treatment room. Benny (Manuel Benson), Rambo (Aaron Ramsey), they are out on the grass so that is pleasing.”

The Clarets have racked up three successive wins in the Championship and are up to third in the table, only a couple of points behind Leeds and Sheffield United.

Parker is prepared for another tough test against the Potters but hopes that his side can keep building momentum.

“They are a solid team, they have been difficult to beat this year,” he insisted. “As always, we are going to a tough stadium against a well accomplished team who are coached well and experienced.

“There are some real technical players as well. We will prepare the best we can to deal with the threats they will pose us while also looking at how we can go and hurt them.

“We go there on the back of some really good results and some real energy about us. We will do everything we can to go there and get the three points.”
