Hull City have sacked Tim Walter ahead of Blackburn Rovers' trip to the MKM Stadium next Saturday.
The Tigers have been on a dismal run with no wins in nine and that had led to his sacking. Rovers travel to the Tigers on Saturday, December 7.
Hull controversially sacked Liam Rosenior at the end of last season despite finishing seventh in the Championship. Many felt that was a huge risk with owner Acun Ilicali citing a difference in opinion over the style of football as the catalyst for the change.
Walter was tasked with bringing more exciting, front-foot and attacking football to East Yorkshire but instead, he leaves with them in the relegation zone. Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday proved the final straw with the fans turning and demanding for a change.
Andy Dawson has been placed in temporary charge and will take their weekend game with Middlesbrough. It remains to be seen whether a new man will then be in place before they take on Blackburn Rovers.
Owner Ilicali had said Walter wouldn't be sacked before the defeat to the Owls and took some of the responsibility for their plight.
"I'm not trying to blame someone personally, it's not only his fault. I would never put the blame on Tim, I put it on me too," Ilicali said.
"We sold some players and unfortunately we waited for some good options in the last week of the transfer window because teams like us can not pay £8m or £10m because of transfer limits.
"Unfortunately it was 1 September when we made our team. I'm the guilty one that we couldn't deliver the exact team that Tim wanted. There were some positions that we couldn't get and that happens in football."
Mark Robins is the early favourite for Hull City role having left Coventry City earlier this month. It's unclear whether he would be keen to jump straight back into work after seven years with the Sky Blues. Frank Lampard is expected to be named as their new head coach.
