Michael Carrick was full of praise for stand-in goalkeeper Sol Brynn, who may deputise for a second match against Blackburn Rovers.
First-choice Seny Diegn missed Boro's 6-2 win over Oxford United due to illness. He will be assessed before Rovers visit the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night.
Hayden Hackney is also a doubt whilst Aidan Morris missed the game and faces a number of weeks on the sidelines.
Whilst Middlesbrough's attackers were in the headlines for their exploits, Carrick was keen to highlight the role his understudy goalkeeper played.

"Sol stepped up and made some big saves," Carrick told The Northern Echo.
"He had a real calming presence. It's not easy after not playing much football. I'm really happy for him.
“There were so many positives to take from today, starting with Sol [Brynn] - massive save that led to the second goal. I'm delighted for Sol. You could go through the full team, there were so many positives."
Middlesbrough are the Championship's form team having scored 15 goals in their last three league outings. They'd only scored 14 goals in 13 matches before then despite posting some impressive underlying numbers.
“I think you could identify so many of the lads of having a threat in so many different ways," Carrick said.
"Delano [Burgzorg] played out on the left and then Riley [McGree] comes on for him, Micah [Hamilton] then comes on late as well. Those are three lads who all play the same position very differently.
“It’s really good options. Tommy and Manu as well, up top, very different strengths which helps. Luckily they’re all finding their feet, they all want to start and all want to play.
“You could see that in how we finished because we were still looking dangerous and some of the football towards the end was fantastic and we could have scored even more. It’s really encouraging and it’s good to see the boys playing with that spring in the step.”
