John Eustace believes Blackburn Rovers are evolving into a better attacking team after the quality of their goals at Cardiff City.

The Rovers head coach had seen his team go four games without scoring until they notched at the Cardiff City Stadium. The underlying numbers show that the creativity levels hadn't dropped but converting those opportunities had been an issue.

Yet the three goals Rovers notched were of supreme quality. Whilst the first, particularly, can't be replicated often, it shows the quality Rovers can produce. The goals on the counter-attack pleased Eustace just as much.

"I don't think you score many goals with 40-odd passes so I can't sit and say that's how we want to score every goal," he joked.

"We do a lot of work on the training pitch, we want to evolve into a really good football team, I think we're a good one now. It's important to also score goals on transition which we did in that game.

"The second goal was a really exciting, attacking goal. We're making good strides going forward. The goals we scored from the start, against Derby, were really exciting. It's a long season, there's a lot of hard work ahead.

"We are evolving nicely and showing some good signs. The attitude of our players and the way they work every day is excellent.

"Nothing gets them down. We've had some highs and some lows in a pretty good 15 games for us. Everyone has stayed pretty consistent in the games and training.

"The whole group are very determined to do their best for Blackburn Rovers and finish as high as we can in the league. But we know there will be difficult moments during the season."

Portsmouth represented a brilliant opportunity to return to winning ways at Ewood Park too. That was until Storm Bert had other ideas, with the game postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Eustace believes the win at Cardiff was vital to ensuring Rovers entered the break in the right spirits and removed any negativity that may have loomed for two weeks.

"We'd lost three in a row but we bounced back and that was outstanding," he added.

"That's the Championship, you can't get too carried away with the highs or the lows. I felt the performances in those defeats were most good.

"It was important we did bounce back and the quality at Cardiff was there for everyone to see. It showed all the sides of our game.

"I keep saying we can't get low after defeats when the performance is there. Even when we debriefed them, they stayed positive and that was very important.

"We need to keep everyone believing in what we're doing. Defeats breed disappointment and negativity but if you're doing the right things day in, day out, I believe results will come.

"The work we're doing is good but there is more to come."
