Blackburn Rovers will face a renewed Portsmouth at Ewood Park after they picked up their first home win of the season before the international break.

The two clubs haven't faced each other since the 2017/18 season, where Rovers completed the double in their promotion-winning campaign.

Portsmouth are now finally back at Championship level but have endured a tough start to the season. Prior to their win over Preston North End, they propped up the league table after a difficult set of fixtures to kickstart the campaign.

It has seen them win just twice but performances, even if not results, have suggested they are now adapting to the level. John Mousinho got both at Fratton Park almost a fortnight ago and he wants that momentum to be harnessed against Rovers.

"I think it should give us some momentum now, it's probably the first international break we didn't want to come," he admitted.

"I felt we were very good and there were that many times I could stand and say the performances have been good but we haven't got the result. We managed to do both and get it all together.

"We've had a very good training period and we're ready to attack the week. It's another difficult week with two tough Championship away games, first at Blackburn, and then we host Millwall.

"We needed that result for us and it will give everyone a lift. The result was most important but the performance was a very close second.

“The levels we’ve shown of late meant I was confident we’d produce a good showing and there were a few things that clicked for us.

“It was huge to pick up three points and give everyone a lift because there’s a bit of head-scratching on how we only got one from the games at Hull and Plymouth.

“We probably don’t want the break to come now, although there’s a chance for the boys to get a bit of a rest.”
