Rudy Gestede has revealed the process Blackburn Rovers undergo when signing players in the transfer window.

The summer was a rushed process for Rovers, with Gestede and Head of Recruitment, John Park, not arriving until June. That left the club playing catch up, with their first arrivals not coming until late July.

However, the January window and the summer of 2025 will give the club the proper opportunity to iron out their systems and plan in advance.

Speaking to Chris Gill, Gestede explained the multi-layered scouting steps, video analysis and background checks that go into bringing a target to Ewood Park.

"In a normal world, take away this window as we arrived late and had to move quickly," Gestede explained.

"During this transfer window, we gathered information on the players and we discussed them with John Park and John Eustace. Finances with the board, performance from a physical point with Adam Owen.

"When we have someone that fits the right criteria, we do a dossier on them. We show previous performances on clips, physical metrics and the opportunity with players in terms of value. You don't want to sign players that aren't better than you have.

"Then we show video to Eustace, we give him a list and then he picks number one, two, three. If the finances are right, the personality, then we will go ahead.

"We have more time now to plan. We use the data which helps you filter through players that come from agents, live scouting and video scouting. We run them through our data and see if they hit our criteria. It gives you scores.

"Then we do our video analysis and then live scouting. We would try to do that a few times with different people watching for different views. That helps our database on players so we can then do a presentation on that player.

"We'll do our due diligence, speak to their former managers, team-mates, social media. We need as much information as you can. You have to have the right person, not just the right player."
