Coventry City have sacked Mark Robins after their 2-1 defeat to Derby County on Wednesday night.
The Sky Blues boss was the longest-serving manager in the division, having held the role for seven years. Robins led the club out of League Two and to within one match of the Premier League.
However, they have struggled to match high pre-season expectations this term. Their form has been underwhelming since April and their midweek home loss to the Rams was the final straw.
The club acknowledged the 'very difficult' decision that had been made, outlining Robins' achievements at Coventry. However, they also said: "The performance of the team over an extended period however have just not been good enough and as such the board of the club has decided to make an immediate change in leadership."
ROVERS TAKEAWAYS: ROVERS PAYING PRICE FOR SUMMER TRANSFER GAMBLE
The Sky Blues have appointed Rhys Carr as their interim boss to take charge of Saturday's match against Sunderland. They will then appoint a permanent successor after a recruitment process. The title of the new incumbent will be 'head coach' to reflect a change in structure.
Coventry have also arranged a Fans' Forum with the chairman, Doug King, for supporters to raise any concerns and ask questions.
Blackburn Rovers were beaten 3-0 at Coventry in October, one of only four wins in their 14 games.
