Blackburn Rovers did not give permission for Dilan Markanday to feature for Chesterfield in their FA Cup first-round win over Horsham.

The winger is on a season-long loan at the League Two side and has impressed, scoring five goals already. Chesterfield fans have been very impressed with the 22-year-old, who is benefitting from playing week in, week out.

However, he was absent from the matchday squad on Saturday, which was initially a surprise. That was then clarified, with Rovers deciding that they didn't want Markanday cup-tied.

“We didn’t have permission from Blackburn, all the others (loan players) we did,” assistant manager Danny Webb said after their 3-1 victory.

Rovers did not stipulate that there was a recall clause when announcing the loan move in the summer, though they are commonplace. They did with Jake Garrett, though, when he joined Bristol Rovers, and might well activate that too with the midfielder getting limited minutes with the Gas.

From this latest move, it's fair to assume they are weighing up whether he should return to Ewood Park in January. Whether that would be with the view of a move higher up the Football League or perhaps to be integrated into the first-team picture, time will tell.
